My day is supposed to start when my alarm goes off at 7am, however like most mornings, it began at 6:30am with the cat jumping on my head to let me know it’s time to play.
I live round the corner from my mum, so I leave the house 15 mins early and pop my head in for a brew and a natter before I head out to my client’s office for the day.
First thing I do is catch up with the office manager about what has been happening in the office since I had last been in.
Then I clear the accounts email inbox printing statements, putting purchase invoices into the processing software used by client and flagging emails that I will deal with, so the office manager can see exactly where I’m up to.
Because it’s the first working day of the new month, I reconcile all bank accounts, including Mortgage, saving and BBL posting any bank charges or interest accrued within the month. I then run the bank statements on each account saving them down for the Management accounts and our records.
Next I run the sales daybooks, I check that all the invoices are correct and query any that look untoward and then begin filling in my end of month review checklist. I use the sales daybooks to create a report for the directors, they want to be able to see how much each department has invoiced each of their customers.
I then move on to my invoice finance reconciliation this needs to be for by 15th of each month so I try to get it out the way early just in case there’s an issue.
Finally! Lunch time- more often than not, lunch is a meal deal with some of the people in the office, I’m lucky to have such nice clients who include me.
In the afternoon I shift my attention to reconciliations, supplier statements are flooding in, so my time is spent chasing up any missing invoices, raising queries and answering emails that come into my client’s inbox.
By the time 4:30pm rolls around and its time to log off I’m shattered! I live local to my client so I’m usually home with a brew by 4:50pm. I’m in the process of buying a house so my evening consists of answering solicitor queries, submitting documents and looking DIY how too online ready for when I tackle my big renovation project.
