Day In The Life of our Payroll Officer Adelle 🧾💵

A huge benefit for me, working at Cura Accounting, is the flexibility around working hours. There is no set 9-5, which means I can start my working day at 8am. Mornings are so chaotic at my house, getting myself and my kids organised and out of the door that I feel like I’ve done a day’s work before I even start.

I put the kettle on, and reserve the desk next to me for my colleague on the Payroll Team, Lianne.

My first job in a morning is always the same: check out the Payroll inbox and deal with any urgent queries. Then ensuring all emails are completed too.

Lianne arrives at 9 and we’ll have a quick catch up, before I work my way through some pension submissions. Attention to detail is so important in my job: this is people’s wages and pensions I’m dealing with so I always double check everything. Then, I finalise and process a weekly payroll and generate P32 reports. All before lunch!

We have a big garden at Cura bookkeeping hub and we all get on well, so it’s al fresco lunch in the sunshine today. Some of the team have come down from our other office which is nice. Sunglasses on for half an hour outside? Absolutely.

After lunch it’s back to it. I’ve a big monthly payroll to do today. I like manually calculating people’s tax/NI deductions for their tax codes - it’s very satisfying when I balance back to their year to date figures. Sometimes when I have those figures all nice and balanced. This one today has a few holiday amendments (I am definitely jealous). Going back though the Payroll and personal emails, so I am ready for tomorrow on a fresh slate. Pack up my stuff and head home at 4pm, ready to pick up the kids and get them to football - honestly, work seems like a spa day compared to the logistical challenges of parenting!
