My day starts at 5am with a honey sweetened Matcha tea in bed. I love this time of the day, everything is very peaceful and I focus on positive thoughts for the day ahead. Often these do get interrupted with ‘genius’ ideas for work, as if they have been created in my sleep, so I write them down on a pad I keep next to my bed.
At 6am I go for a morning run, exercise is very important to me, it sets me up for the day. I enjoy running just as much in the sunny mornings as I do in the dark rainy mornings. A different experience altogether but both enjoyable.
Back at 7:15 I get my kids up ready for school and have plenty of time to get myself ready for work, although it always seems a bit more chaotic than it should be. Making two healthy packed lunches that are appetising for children can be quite a challenge too!
I am very grateful that our office is in the same village as my kids school, it means I can do drop off and still be at my desk for 9am.
Work for me is incredibly varied. I start by updating the company cashflow and forecasts, followed by prioritising emails, and creating a ‘to do’ list, usually based on the emails I have received. I then meet with the management team to check they are on task before returning to action my ‘to do’ list items. This takes up the majority of my morning.
Lunch is usually a salad which I make myself with items purchased in the local coop. I never get round to the walk up Holcombe Hill I tell myself to do every day, convincing myself I am too busy. I find it very hard to break away from work once I have started, never managing to achieve a proper lunch break. I have no idea how the Europeans have such long lunches, with wine! One day I will do this, I am sure it’s one of lifes little pleasures that I am missing out on.
The afternoon usually consists of focusing on more strategic tasks, reviewing new software on the market, looking for ways to speed processes and generally work better. I do my upmost not to become involved in conversations I overhear in the office, with it being open plan its quite hard to stay out of things. Even the smallest query can end up in full Cura group conversation. I am learning that although it gives me peace of mind, me knowing what’s going on in every area isn’t a constructive use of mine or the staff time, so I do my best to ignore the conversations around me.
I believe if the clients are happy, staff are happy and referrers are happy then Cura will continue to grow. So my main task I guess is ensuring this happens, in whatever shape or form.
I leave work around 5pm to take my kids to some sort of club. I am pleased I encouraged them to take up sports with a club house so I can enjoy a non-alcoholic beer and pretend I have a social life.
I get home around 7pm to make tea, do a few chores and bed for 9pm to read for an hour before lights out. I am currently reading ‘Difficult Daughters’ by Manju Kapur which I am finding a great book so far.
